Addy Walker and her mother arrive in Philadelphia to begin life as free people. Everything is new in the big city. Addy is most happy about two changes. She has a friend for the first time, Sarah, and she goes to school, where she learns to read and write. In school, Addy sits next to Harriet. Harriet is smart, wealthy, and popular, and Harriet has the life that Addy thought freedom would bring her. Addy hopes to be Harriet's friend and Sarah's friend. But Addy ends up having to make a choice. As a result, she learns about real friendship and freedom.

Addy Walker y su madre llegaron a Filadelfia para comenzar una vida como personas libres. Todo es nuevo en la gran ciudad. Addy está muy contenta por dos cambios. Tiene una amiga por primera vez, Sarah, y va al colegio, dónde aprende a leer y a escribir. En el colegio, Addy se sienta al lado de Harriet. Harriet es inteligente, rica y popular, y Harriet tiene la vida que Addy pensó que la libertad le traería. Addy
espera ser amiga de Harriet y de Sarah. Pero Addy acaba teniendo que elegir. Como resultado, ella aprende sobre la verdadera amistad y la verdadera libertad.

Opinión personal

Vale, este libro me ha gustado mucho. Es entretenido y tiene una enseñanza.

Ahora con  SPOILER  (lo siento pero el cuento es corto y no puedo opinar sin destripar cosas :/ Sorry)

Me ha gustado la forma de actuar de Sarah, como al principio ayuda a Addy en todo y como al final la perdona sin rencores. Además Sarah ya había pasado por lo que paso Addy.
También me gustó mucho el final:

"Maybe we can study spelling together right now" She reached into her lunch pail. There on top were four cookies Momma had made, each in the shape of a letter. L-O-V-E
"Here", Addy said, holding the cookies on her outstreched hand. "This is our first word"
